In June 2014, the Wooden Spoon Children’s Charity (Ulster Region) hosted the only full reunion of the “The Invincibles” from the British Lions Tour of South Africa in 1974 in Belfast and Dublin.  40 years ago, in May 1974, a squad of 34 rugby players from Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales formed the British and Irish Lions Squad to travel to South Africa.  When they returned in July that year, having won 21 of the 22 matches, drawing the other, the returned as “The Invincibles” and have become known as the greatest northern hemisphere side of all time.

When hearing about Touch Trust, Tom David, of Pontypridd and Wales, kindly arranged to have the squad sign a British Lions rugby shirt so that it could be auctioned to raise money for the charity.  Significantly, the shirt had been worn by Paul Fears as he stood in the ANZ Stadium in Sydney in July 2013 and watched the British Lions beat Australia 41-16 to win the test series.  The accompanying photographs show Greg Fears, a regular guest at Touch Trust, proudly wearing the shirt standing alongside Tom David.
